Our Mission

Here at the Friends of Old Stone Fort our mission is to support park staff in their mission to protect, preserve, promote, and enhance Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park as a center of cultural heritage and natural beauty.

As members of the Friends group we support the park through volunteerism, event coordination and community involvement. We are inspired by the natural and cultural wonders found at Old Stone Fort to act in a way that will ensure the integrity of the site for generations to come.

Brian Wofford

President

Brian has a B.S. In Forestry Recreation from University of Tennessee Knoxville, and a M.S. in Outdoor Teacher Education from Southern Adventist University. He worked as a Teacher-Naturalist for the Chattanooga Nature Center for six years then worked as the Director of Webb School's outdoor program for 32 years. While at Webb School he also taught 7th grade science for twenty years. His career was spent primarily creating positive experiences for young people in the outdoors. He was an Emergency Medical Technician for twelve years and also held a certification as a Wilderness E.M.T.

Joan Hartvigsen

Secretary

Joan is an avid hiker, cyclist, kayaker and camper.  She is a graduate of the Tennessee Naturalist Program.  A native of Saint Louis and a licensed Veterinarian, Joan and her husband Tom have enjoyed hiking at Old Stone Fort State Park since 1975.

Shawn Wolfe

Vice President

Shawn is the Vice-Chairman of the Tennessee Naturalist Program and has been part of the program since the inaugural class in 2010.   Prior to moving to Tennessee, he was a Certified Volunteer Naturalist in Ohio and a Certified Master Naturalist in Texas.  Additionally, he has served as a Tennessee State Park Seasonal Interpretive Ranger at Cedars of Lebanon and Old Stone Fort State Parks.  His education includes a Master of Science degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Science from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from American Military University in West Virginia. He currently serves as the Chief of Military Personnel at Arnold AFB in Tullahoma TN after completing a 20-year active duty career in the United States Air Force

Megan Garrett

Treasurer

Megan Garrett was born and raised in Nashville, TN with a love of natural places. She graduated Middle Tennessee State University, where she served as President of the Students for Environmental Action. Currently, she is raising her own little nature lover in Manchester, and is so happy that he gets to grow up with the wonders of nature and history at Old Stone Fort.
